Deleting your data
The App "English Writing Routine" does not provide user accounts. There is no sign-up or sign-in, and we do not hold your name, email address, or a password as registration details (for how we handle email you send to the address on the support page, see Section 2.4 of the Privacy Policy). The data on our server is held against an anonymous technical identifier that the App generates automatically on each device.
You can delete that data entirely from within the App. This deletes more than the records on your device: the anonymous technical identifier itself, and the data held against it on our server, are deleted too. This page describes the steps and exactly what is deleted.
How to delete your data
- Open the App and go to Settings from the tab bar at the bottom.
- Tap Delete my data at the bottom of the screen.
- A confirmation dialog appears. Review it and tap Delete.
Deletion cannot be undone.
What is deleted
The following data is deleted.
- Data on our server — the anonymous technical identifier itself, together with the scoring counts and dates, Premium subscription status, and temporarily stored scoring results (Privacy Policy, Section 6) associated with it
- Data on your device — the learning history stored in the App (your scoring history and any unsent writing)
After deletion a new identifier is created automatically, and you can continue using the App from the same state as a first launch.
What is not deleted
- Your subscription (Premium) — deleting your data does not cancel your subscription. Cancel separately from the subscription management screen of the App Store or Google Play. The steps are described on the support page.
- Purchase records held by the stores — records of your payments are held by the App Store / Google Play, and we cannot delete them.
- Audit records of billing events — records kept to confirm that billing was processed correctly remain, but the identifiers of the user (the anonymous technical identifier and the identifier used by the billing service) are stripped from them as part of the deletion. What remains is the event ID assigned to each notification by the billing service, the event type, the outcome and its reason, and the time of receipt — none of which identifies you, and none of which is linked to the deleted data.
If you continue to use Premium after deletion
If you delete your data while a subscription is still active, you may need to restore your purchase. Use "Restore purchases" on the purchase screen of the App. You must be signed in with the same store account you purchased with.
If it does not work
If the in-app deletion does not complete, please try again later where you have a good network connection. Even if the connection is interrupted, the process resumes automatically the next time you launch the App.
If that does not resolve it, please contact us using the address on the support page. Note, however, that the anonymous technical identifier is not linked to a name, email address, or similar information, and we have no means of linking a record to you as an individual. For that reason we cannot action requests to delete individual data by email. Please always delete your data from within the App.
